Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why a Venice, FL Pride Event?

Pride events are a way to engage and strengthen relationships among the LGBTQ community and its allies.  On Saturday, November 3, 2018, the first Pride festival will be held in Venice, FL from 1 pm to 5 pm. Senior Co-Pastors at SunCoast Metropolitan Community Church, Reverend Dr. Nancy Wilson and Reverend Vickie Miller, are engaging the LGBTQ community and allies locally.  Visibility and coming out helps to create safety and progress in human rights for everyone. Venice FL Pride will offer a variety of activities, including speakers, vendors selling their wares, entertainers, Pet Blessing and other fun things.

Who is hosting the Venice, FL Pride Event?

SunCoast Metropolitan Community Church is hosting this 2018 inaugural Pride event with the goal to build a community of vendors, sponsors and community allies who will also make this an annual event. The theme for this year’s Pride event is “We Are Here” to acknowledge and make visible the diversity and strength of our community and allies.

Do I need to be a member of the LGBTQ community to participate?

Absolutely not! Everyone is welcome. Bring your family and friends. Simply attending sends an important message that we are here and have the support of the larger community.

Why a Blessing of Pets?

The blessing of pets and animals is often celebrated on October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. St. Francis is the Patron Saint of Animals. Therefore, it is customary that in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures, animals are led to churches for a special ceremony called the “Blessing of the Animals.” Every year, millions of animals are blessed in a ceremony that touches the hearts of most of those in attendance. A Blessing of Animals witnesses to God’s love, care, and concern for creation. We chose to celebrate this Blessing at our Venice Pride Festival as many of our LGBT friends and allies usually have a pet.
